How to take your own Boudoir Selfies to gift for Valentine's Day

Updated: Jun 17, 2022

Valentine's Day is coming up soon and if you are in need of a gift idea for your loved one, LOOK NO FURTHER!! Taking some boudoir selfies is a GREAT CONFIDENCE booster plus who doesn't love getting sexy photos sent to them by the person they love! I figured I would write some tips on how you can pose in a flattering way to help you all out.

If you want to make your photos a little bit more Valentine's Day-themed you can do any of the following:

  1. Get fake rose petals and sprinkle them on the floor or the bed

  2. Wear red or pink lingerie

  3. Take a self-portrait with those heart candies in your mouth

  4. Get a Huge Teddy Bear to lay on

  5. Make some fake angel wings to wear Or buy small ones of Amazon

  6. Get Red Silk Sheets to lay on

See some Valentine's Day Photo Inspiration here:

I took the photos below with my iPhone 11 and a tripod and then edited them in Lightroom. This way you can see the result that can be accomplished with any mobile phone. If you do not have a tripod, you can always use a moving tripod (AKA any human)!!

BOUDOIR SELFIE TIP 1:

You will need a tripod (or something you can lean your phone on) plus a phone with a self-timer.

  1. Put all your weight on one hip and then point your other toe.

  2. Bend your arm closest to the camera and arch your elbow back to cover the tummy area (if it is one of the areas you are self-conscious about). High Waist underwear also works amazingly to cover the tummy area.

  3. Arch your back to lift your chest and stick out your bum. The more you arch the smoother the skin on the back of your thighs will be.

If you have a mirror, mess around with the angles. Maybe hold the top of it, stand against it, or just look at yourself through it. If you are comfortable while you are posing then you aren't arching enough!! :P

Selfie Tutorial Tip 2:

Just Have Fun with this one!! I had my phone against a candle I had in my room and used my front camera.

  1. Point your toes and then sit on your heels.

  2. Lean forward and Arch your back

  3. Keep Moving Your hands (play with your hair, grab your straps, basically anything)

  4. Turn a fan on towards you if you want some hair movement (or you are dying of heat like I was because it was the one warm day of the week :P)

You will probably need to take a bunch of different shots to get the right look on your face :P half of the mine made me look stupid or just super mad LOL!!

Selfie Tutorial Tip 3:

For this one, I placed my phone on the tripod in my doorway. This way my back is in the shadows and the side of my body has the rim light.

  1. Make sure your feet are clean (an obvious tip but it needed to be said)

  2. Push your butt back towards the camera

  3. Make sure your top knee comes forward touches the bed and then that ankle is above the bottom leg.

  4. Your hands aren't a big deal in this photo but if you want you can grab your hair or your top arm can be on your thigh.

This photo is a bit easier since you do not need to look at the camera and honestly, I recommend NOT LOOKING AT THE CAMERA, it won't look flattering! TRUST ME!

Selfie Tutorial Tip 4:

This one is like the photo before but obviously from the front. Have the window light coming from the side of your face.

  1. Your one arm will be holding your weight but your other arm can be on your hip, messing with your hair, holding a camera, or messing with your bra strap.

  2. Push your butt back and arch your back!!

  3. Make sure your top knee comes forward touches the bed and then that ankle is above the bottom leg, just like the photo before.

Selfie Tutorial Tip 5:

Here is your gym workout for the day, this is going to kill your bag and your abs and I apologize in advance. For this one, I placed my phone on the tripod in my doorway again. This way my body is in the shadows and the top of my body has the rim light. This gives a great silhouette look.

  1. Start on your bed and then lean towards the floor.

  2. Push your butt up and arch your back as much as you can. This will give you the perfect butt curve.

  3. Point your toes and stagger your feet.

  4. You can either put all your weight on your elbows and then use your hands to play with your hair, your lips, or hold your bra straps. OR you can put all your weight on your arms (which is definitely harder) and stack your hands on top of each other.

Selfie Tutorial Tip 6:

If setting up the timer and going back and forth is too exhausting you can also put your phone in video mode. That way you can do a couple of poses in the same spot and then you can screenshot the photos you like most right from that video!!

Last but not least, Make sure to take some photos from a distance and then some close-ups. Everyone loves a good bootie pic so don't be afraid to get close to your camera/iPhone!! Feel free to also get creative and use your mirror to take photos of your reflection as well.

Here are some extra photos that I took myself if you need more ideas!!
